Cross Training Services

Here's everything left on the website, in the order I'd do it, with exactly where to click and the words to paste. Every box has a Copy button so nothing gets typed wrong.

None of this is urgent enough to lose an evening over. Work down it whenever you have a few minutes, and send me a note when you want me to check it.

First — what you already did

You turned search engines back on, fixed the page titles, got the sitemap live and wrote the homepage description. That was the biggest item on my whole list and it cost nothing.

61This morning

100Tonight
Google's own search-health score for the site.
  • Search engines can see all 7 pages (they couldn't this morning)
  • Sitemap is live and listing 8 pages
  • Page titles are no longer cut off mid‑word
  • Homepage has a proper description
  • Privacy Policy is out of the main menu

Google takes a couple of weeks to come around and index everything, so don't worry if searches look the same for a while.

What's left

Task 0 — 30 seconds, do this one first

Check whose name the account is actually in

There's a difference between having access to the site and owning it, and on Wix that difference decides a few things that matter.

WhereWix dashboard → Settings → Roles & Permissions. One person is listed as Owner. Everyone else is a collaborator.

If that says Matt or you, good — stop here, nothing else to do, and the rest of this list is all that's left.

If it's somebody else — whoever originally built the site — then three things are true that are worth knowing:

  • Your messages are probably going to them. Wix sends form and chat alerts to the account owner's email by default. That would explain exactly what Matt has been describing.
  • Billing, the plan and the domain stay with them. No collaborator role can touch those, however much access you otherwise have.
  • Only they can hand it over. An ownership transfer has to be started by the current owner, and it can carry the plan, the domain and the mailboxes across. You accept it by email on your end.

None of that is urgent in the sense of today. It's just worth knowing who holds the keys to your own front door, and it's a 30-second look.

Task 1 — the important one

Make sure messages actually reach you

Matt mentioned messages going somewhere he couldn't get to. Both the contact form and the chat window drop into the Wix Inbox, and Wix sends those alerts to whichever email address set up the account — which isn't always the one you check. If Task 0 turned up somebody else's name, that is almost certainly where they have been going.

WhereWix dashboard → Automations → find the “form submitted” automation → the ⋯ menu → Edit → Send an email → Recipients → Edit

Add the email address you two actually read. If your plan offers a Send an SMS action, add Matt's cell too — a man who advertises 24/7 should get a buzz, not a dashboard notification.

Then the chatWix dashboard → Inbox → Settings → point chat notifications at the same place

How to know it worked: fill out your own contact form from a phone and see how long until something lands. That number is how long a real customer waits.

Task 2

Descriptions for the other six pages

The homepage has one now. These six don't, so Google writes its own summary of them. Each one is under the length where Google cuts it off.

Where, for each pagePages & Menu → pick the page → the ⋯ menu → SEO (Google) → “What's the page about?”

Task 3

Four pages are missing their main heading

Services, About, Consultation and Privacy Policy have no “Heading 1” on them. That's the one line search engines read to understand what a page is about. Each page should have exactly one.

WhereIn the Editor, click the page's main heading text → in the text panel, set it to Heading 1

If the page doesn't have a heading at all, add a text box at the top and use these:

Task 4

Make it faster on a phone

The site takes about 7.5 seconds to load on a phone, down from 11.6 this morning. On a computer it's under 3, so this is a phone problem — and most people arriving from Facebook are on phones.

Two things cause most of it. The first is the big hero photo. I compressed your existing one from the site — same picture, same size on screen, a fraction of the weight:

Download the compressed hero photo (82 KB)

WhereEditor → click the hero image → Change Image → upload this file

The second is the chat window that opens by itself. It loads extra code on every visit and covers part of the page. I'd switch it off unless somebody is actually watching it — an unanswered chat is worse than no chat.

WhereEditor → click the chat app → Settings → disable

Task 5 — small

Tidy the contact page address

The contact page currently lives at /contact-8, which is what's left over from a page being duplicated a few times. Wix will set up the redirect so no existing links break.

WherePages & Menu → Contact → the ⋯ menu → SEO → URL slug → change to contact

Task 6

Tell Google the site is there

Now that indexing is on, this speeds up how fast Google picks everything up — and it shows you what people actually typed to find you, which is worth more than anything I could guess at.

WhereMarketing & SEO → SEO Settings → connect Google Search Console, then submit the sitemap

When you're done

Send me a text and I'll run the site through the same tools I used for the first report. It checks all of this automatically and tells me exactly what's still outstanding, so you don't have to keep track.

If you get stuck on any of it, or Wix has moved a menu around since I wrote this, call me and we'll do it together on the phone. Faster than me writing more instructions.
